This exchange is for the superhero universes made by DC and Marvel, including almost all adaptations. Any character or comic set in these universes is eligible, even if they are not superheroes themselves.

Scope

AKA what fandoms are allowed in the exchange

Allowed

• DC's and Marvel's superhero universes and all characters found there are eligible
• Most adaptations are eligible
• Officially released crossover titles are eligible
• Titles that weren't DC or Marvel when created but are now owned by them will be decided on a case by case basis
• You may nominate DC or Marvel characters crossed over with ineligible fandoms under Crossover Fandom

Not Allowed

• Comics published by DC or Marvel that are not set in a universe where superheroes exist and are not alternate universes of existing superheroes
• RPF. Fictional versions of real people that appear in Marvel and DC are eligible. Otherwise, RPF only goes under Crossover Fandom
• Mortal Kombat games even if they have DC DLC
• Battle Fever J
• Denshi Sentai Denziman
• Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan
• Fortnite

Fandom Guidelines

Nominations are used to build a list of fandoms, characters and ships that will be used in the signups. Nominating does not obligate you to sign up. You may signup even if you don't nominate. We will be using the Fandom field and the Relationship field.

All nominations must be disambiguated by putting the fandom in parenthesis, either the full name or a clear abbreviation of it. Mods will fix incorrect disambiguations but nominations where zero attempt at disambiguation has been made will be rejected. If you need help then comment with what you are nominating and we will help format it, but will not add it for you.

Solo Characters

AO3 does not allow mods to set matching on character or relationship. In order to fake this we will be using the Relationship field for this. In order to keep things clean and to not potentially screw over characters, we will be requiring all single character nominations be in the format of "Solo: Character (Fandom)"

Examples:
Solo: Tony Stark (MCU)
Solo: Selina Kyle (BTAS)
Solo: Kara Zor-El (DCU Prime Earth)

Nominations of single characters without "Solo:" at the beginning will be rejected.

Relationships

You may nominate romantic, platonic, and queerplatonic relationships. For a romantic relationship use /. For a platonic relationship use &. For a queerplatonic relationship use +.

Allowing matching on queerplatonic relationships is something new for us, so we ask for participants to be flexible and patient with us as we try this out.

Note: AO3 has synned some tags using + to the & version, so check the tagset before you nominate. If You are worried about AO3 turning your + to a & due to AO3 synning add QP to the end of the nomination. I will make sure it makes it into the tagset correctly.

Original Characters

You may nominate original characters either solo or in relationships under the fandom you want them to appear in. If you want the gender or anything to be set in stone you must bake it into the nomination.

Tony Stark/Original Character (MCU)

Crossover Fandom

Crossovers between Marvel and DC, distinct parts of either, or one of them with an outside fandom go here. Each character must have their fandom disambiguates after their name. Be specific with what you want. It's okay if there is both "Diana (DC)/Tony Stark (Marvel)" and "Diana (DCEU)/Tony Stark (MCU)" since the first is generic and the second is specific.

Any DNWs (Do Not Wants) must be in the signup form in order to be enforced. We will not enforce DNWs designed to only get a single type of gift or are a logic puzzle.

There is a section for a link. This is for if you want to post a letter offsite for additional info.

You must make three distinct requests. This can be different characters/relationships from the same universe or things from different universes. You may repeat the same ship over different universes, but not over parts of the same universe. Crossover Fandom only counts once towards three distinct requests. Once you have three distinct requests you may repeat as much as you like.

"Any" is defined as any character or ship under the offered fandom in the tagset and not any character or ship that exists.

You must make three distinct offers following the same guidelines as the request section.

If your offers do not match what anyone is requesting you will be emailed about either adding to your offers or deleting your signup. If you do not respond withing forty-eight hours your signup will be deleted.

Assignments

Minimums
Fic: 1000 words
Art: A finished art piece not on lined paper

Art should be an original creation by the artist and not a photo manip or graphics. Art may be traditional or digital.

Gifts should be in a requested fandom, featuring at least one requested character or relationship, in a requested medium, hitting the minimum, being complete, and respect the requester's DNWs. Works that do not fall within these parameters will not be considered fulfilling the request. The request will be sent out as an emergency pinch hit.

If you can not complete your assignment for any reason, hit the default button on AO3. You do not need to explain your reason for defaulting. Your recipient will be sent out as a pinch hit. If you default and the person assigned to you defaults then you will not be sent out as a pinch hit.

Pinch Hits

Pinch hits are how we make sure that everyone that gave a gift, gets a gift.

It is very rare for AO3 to be able to match everyone up perfectly. There are usually a few people that don't have someone to create for them when assignments are generated. These can be people who no one was offering anything they requested. They can also be people who did have one or more potential creators, but AO3 matched them to someone else.

We also gain pinch hits by people defaulting on their assignment. This can be done manually by the creator hitting the button to default or automatically at the due date for works that have not been turned in.

As long a you complete a gift you will get a gift. If you default and the person assigned to you defaults you will not be sent out for a pinch hit.

In the event that there are outstanding pinch hits when works are scheduled to be revealed, reveals will be delayed until they are fulfilled.

If a work does not fulfill the requirements of the assignment the person will be sent out as an Apocalypse pinch hit.

All pinch hits will be posted to this community. To claim one just comment on the relevant post with your AO3 screenname and which pinch hit you want. The comments will be screened. You do not need to be signed up to claim a pinch hit.

Noms queries

Hi, I had a couple of questions about how best to nominate:

1. I want to nominate a specific What If comic. Currently I have the fandom as the full name of the comic and the disambig as the initial of each word, but "WI:JFHFTHOT?" seems... not great, and the full name of the comic (What If: Jane Foster Had Found the Hammer of Thor?) is super long. Do you have a preferred format for this kind of thing?

2. I'd like to do a sort of... group nom, I guess? of a group of background characters, as a sort of "what do these ordinary people think Canon Character With Secret Identity is up to?" thing. I was thinking of doing it as a group because I don't care about getting something about a specific character, and in any case most of the characters I'm think of don't have names or more than a few lines - they aren't exactly distinct. Is there a way I could format this that would fall inside noms guidelines?
My thoughts so far would be something along the lines of "Group: Detroit Police Officers (Titans TV)". Or maybe "Detroit Police Officer & Other Detroit Police Officer(s) (Titans TV)"? "Group" seemed like the most logical choice but it's not listed as a possible relationship type above, so I thought I should check.

1. You can disambiguate it as "WI: V 1 #10" which is short for volume 1, issue 10. I'm going off the issue number from this wiki.
